“Fat, Black and Ugly in Times Square” - Why some Black people hate Thomas J Price’s Times Square statue
'Grounded in the Stars', the 12-foot sculpture of a Black woman in Times Square has sparked controversy across the internet. The statue by British artist Thomas J Price has been met with both admiration and anger within various demographics. However, the most surprising is the overwhelming negative response from the demographic the piece appears to represent, Black women.


Love beyond romance - Mickalene Thomas’ exhibition All About Love emphasises the importance of family, sisterhood and self love
The namesake for Mickalene Thomas’ exhibition was inspired by the book All About Love, which was penned by author, educator and social critic bell hooks and published in 1999. Mickalene Thomas is a New York-based artist known for her photography, portraiture, collage and use of materials like rhinestones, acrylic and enamel. The work encourages us to pursue experiencing all of the different types of love that we have access to.
